Age Groups & Eligibility
We’re excited to welcome swimmers of many ages to our team! To keep competition fair and consistent across the league, age groups are determined according to the Mid-Valley Swim League Bylaws.
How Age Is Determined
A swimmer’s age group is based on their age as of June 1 of the current season. Once assigned, swimmers will compete in that age group for the entire season, including league championships.
Age Group Breakdown
8 & Under
- May swim in individual events only
- Exception: Individual Medley (I.M.) is not offered for this age group
- No team relay events
- May swim exhibition in 9 & 10 events if an open lane is available
9 & 10
- Eligible for all individual and team events
11 & 12
- Eligible for all individual and team events
13 & 14
- Eligible for all individual and team events
15 & 16
- Eligible for all individual events
- Do not compete in team relay events within this age group
- Relay participation occurs in the 15–18 age group
17 & 18
- Eligible for all individual and team events
- The summer following a swimmer’s senior year of high school is their final year of eligibility
