Swim Meet this Thursday! (Email #9)

    Hello Neptune Families!

Our first swim meet is this Thursday at 6pm at the Grandview City Pool! This is a virtual meet against the Prosser Piranhas. We expect that this swim meet will look similar to those in the past swim seasons with some exceptions. Since we are in Phase 3, we will be maintaining social distancing and wearing masks inside the pool facility. Because of these requirements, we are having our swim athletes race in odd-numbered pool lanes. In addition to social distancing and wearing masks, there are a limited number of occupants allowed on the pool deck and in the grass area inside the fence. Due to this and other pool safety rules, only swim meet volunteers are allowed on deck. Moreover, there will be only two timers in each occupied lane. As discussed at the parent meeting, spectators are limited to two people per swim family. When a parent or family member volunteers to help run the swim meet, the swim family is allowed to have one more person enter the pool facility. We have also been asked to limit spectators on the outside of the fence.

So where do I sign up?

Volunteering for the meet is fun, and you get a close seat to watch the swimmers race! A great number of volunteers are required to run swim meets. In fact, our swim meets can’t be pulled off without parents volunteering as timers and in other positions. So thank you in advance for signing up to help run our swim meets. To sign up, please go to the Grandview Neptunes SwimTopia website and click on the “Swim Meets” tab. Next, please click on the green buttons to let Coach Tiffany know that your swimmer is attending the meet and to sign up for a job. Please do your entries before 12pm on Thursday*. All deck positions take some instruction, but new parents find the timer jobs to be the easiest positions. Feel free to ask if you have any questions on the volunteer positions.

Please sign up your family’s two spectators by emailing their names and your swimmer’s name to Abby at [email protected] . Please do this before 12pm on Thursday. After that time, the list will be printed out for our gate attendant. The pool gate opens at 6pm. Masks are required by all people who enter the pool facility.

    What do I bring?

Some things my swimmers pack for the meet are two beach towels, goggles, a swim cap, a filled water bottle, appropriate snacks, sunscreen, and warm clothes and blankets. Please remember there are no showers, changing rooms, or open water fountains in the pool facility.

You will want to bring your lawn chair. Another suggestion is to ask Coach Tiffany or other swim families what they bring to the meet to keep themselves and their swimmers happy during the swim meet.

Please contact Abby Alvarez if you have any questions about signing up at (509) 832-2469. Of course, you can email me if you have any other questions.

Thank you so much for volunteering, letting Coach Tiffany know your athlete is participating, and helping us maintain the Grandview Pool’s Phase 3 requirements!

    Thank you again,

    Rachael
